Jean-Louis Heyd

Strategic Project Director Large Accounts Brands & Retails, Lectra World Headquarters, France

Computer Science engineer in 1982
Has joined LECTRA in 1985, has been involved in the Lectra software development, in the Lectra product development. I have been in charge to launch the 3D Design products development after the acquisition of Computer Design inc. in 1998. In 2001, I have joined the Large Account structure to leverage the project approach within the Lectra group. Then, we have signed a partnership agreement with Human Solutions in March 2001, for the 3D scanning technology, after an evaluation of the existing technologies. The processes around 3D scanners have been split around four business cases:
- Mass-Customization with Made to Measure (single order production)
- Mass-Customization with Size Prediction, finding the best fit from a 3D scan (without customized production)
- Size Survey to prepare new size systems and new body measurement charts
- 3D Design using the 3D body shapes of the scanned candidates.

In the domain of the size survey, we are participating in the French Size Survey with IFTH, providing scanner solutions and services (objective is to scan 15 000 persons in 18 months with 2 scanners).

We have defined with our partners the relevant scan protocol to guarantee the consistency of the measurements. It is a balance between the scanners capabilities, the cost of the solution, and the number of physical landmarks used. For measurements concerning the head, the foot and the hand, it is possible to use a small foot scanner, in order to avoid managing manually those corresponding measurements.
